Holiday Cookies

This year I had the crazy and slightly ambitious idea to make Christmas cookies for everyone on my holiday list! I usually give out homemade candy but this year I wanted to do Christmas cookies. So I found my 10 favorite cookies recipes and created an epic holiday cookie box for my friends, people I work with, and colleagues.

Holiday Crostini

Today  I am channeling Martha Stewart of the 80s for this easy and tasty holiday crostini recipe I created with La Brea Bakery.

I love flipping through vintage food magazines and came upon this amazing spread of tea sandwiches that Martha created for a holiday party spread many years ago.  I was blown away with one how gorgeous they were but also how simple they were. Everyday ingredients put together to create something stunning. Inspired by these crostini I decided to create my own holiday spread using my favorite sandwich bread from La Brea Bakery.

Lemon Crepe Cake

When I lived in NYC (in what seems like a lifetime ago) I worked at the @MetMuseum. It was a pretty dreamy job if you liked art and history. On days when I wanted to venture out for lunch I would walk over to this little bakery on 78th and Madison where I would just have cake for lunch. I was 25 and running marathons at the time so this was totally acceptable in my mind. It wasn’t just any old cake, it was a slice of crepe cake from Lady M Confections.

Orange Olive Oil Cake with Mascarpone Whipped Cream

I spent this past Thanksgiving up in wine country. We rented a wonderful house right outside of Sonoma. We were staying at a rental, and I wasn't sure what the kitchen would be like, so I decided to make as much of the meal ahead of time, so we could drive it up. Also I didn't want to have to cook while everyone else was out wine tasting. I found this recipe on Food 52 and decided to adapt it. Even a day later, this cake was everyone's favorite thing on my Thanksgiving menu.

Crispy Skillet Potatoes

Next up in my Thanksgiving recipe series are my crispy skillet potatoes with garlic and herbs.  I am not saying not to serve mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving, but I am saying that these are delicious and a total showstopper. If you can’t imagine not serving mashed potatoes, you can also just make them for dinner and throw a fried egg on top, just saying, because this recipe is a keeper.

Key Lime Pie

My co-worker recently called me the key lime whisperer. I think it was a term of endearment (right?) because of my love of anything and everything key lime. It stems from growing up in Florida and being surrounded by citrus fruits.  Key limes were front and center (that and grapefruits and honeybell oranges).  It is pure nostalgia I think. We had a key lime tree in our backyard so key limes were used in everything. They were just as common place as regular limes, maybe even more so.  I even remember ordering a key lime pie martini when I was barely old enough to drink- the rim was lined with crushed graham crackers-amazing. But my love of key limes in its purest form is found in a big slice of delicious key lime pie.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

Thanksgiving is by far my most favorite holiday. What could be better than getting together with friends and family and eating all day? Since I am hosting Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving this year, I have started planning my menus and these pumpkin cheesecake bars with toasted marshmallow topping are front and center at both. I have been making pumpkin cheesecake for the past 5 Thanksgivings and without fail, it is always a crowd favorite.
